Hot Labor Summer
Happy Labor Day to all the workers who make our world go round 😊 Some local and national news to inspire us to keep on pushing:
Hotel workers of the Diplomat, one of miami beach’s biggest resorts, vote by 99% to strike. The workers are represented by UNITE HERE Local 355, who represents nearly 7,000 workers at hotels, airports, casinos, and stadiums in South Florida
Amazon Labor Union and Starbucks Workers United are marching for recognition this Labor Day. The workers won the union – it’s time for the bosses to recognize and bargain. Workers will be marching in NYC from Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz’s penthouse to Jeff Bezo’s $100M penthouse.
Last week, after workers organize strikes at over 350 restaurants across the state, California State Senate passed bill AB257, sending it to the governor’s desk for signature. The bill would create a Fast Food Council that would give over half a million workers a seat at the table on issues like wages, health & safety, the right to be free from discrimination & harassment & more. Read more details about how workers won this legislation here.

In the past few weeks, the island has seen demonstrations against LUMA Energy, a U.S and Canadian energy corporation that has increased fees on families while refusing to improve PR’s electrical grid. Read more here.
